Kwik Sew patterns are excellent for tracing if you wish to sew the pattern in multiple sizes, or if you want to save the original when making pattern alterations (in case you don't get it right the first time). Kwik Sew patterns are now being printed on thick tissue paper. I have not had the opportunity to use a pattern printed on this paper but it should be more durable than typical pattern tissue. About Kwik Sew Patterns Kwik Sew patterns are multi-sized (all sizes for a particular pattern come in one envelope) and printed on durable white paper. Each size is printed in a different color, making it easy to locate and keep track of your size for cutting or tracing. I do recommend tracing these patterns so that you can get multiple uses out of each pattern in any size. This makes them well worth the cost.
When selecting size, compare your measurements to the measurements on the back of the pattern envelop and choose the sizes with the measurements closest to your own. If your measurements fall between two sizes, choose the larger size. For dresses and all tops, choose the size by the bust or chest measurement. For women, choose size for skirts, pants, and shorts based on the hip measurement. For men, choose size for pants and shorts based on the waist measurement.
Misses' size patterns come is XS, S, M, L, XL all in one envelope. The Misses' figure is approximately 5' 6” tall. Bust measurement is full bust, waist is at natural waistline, and hip is at the fullest part of the hip. The XS is for a 22-23 ½” waist and the XL is for a 35-37” waist.
Women's size patterns come in 1X through 4X all in one envelope. Measurements are taken in the same manner as for Misses' sizes. The 1X is for a 37” waist and the 4X is for a 49” waist.
Mens' patterns come in S, M, L, XL, and XXL all in one envelope. The Mens' size is based on an approximate height of 5' 10”. Chest measurement is measured around the fullest part of the chest, waist is at the natural waistline, hip is at the fullest part of the hip. Size range is as follows: S=34-36” chest and 28-30” waist, XXL=50-52” chest and 44-46” waist.
For children, Kwik Sew recommends usually choosing the size based on the child's height.
Girls' size patterns come in XS through XL, or 4 through 14, although some patterns do not cover this entire range. The girls' size range is as follows: XS (4-5) =height of 41” to 44” and waist of 21 ½” to 22”, XL (12-14) = height of 58 ½” to 61” and waist of 25 ½” to 26 ½”.
Boys' size patterns come in the same size range as the Girls' patterns. Measurements for the XS are the same as for Girls', but they do differ slightly as the sizes increase. XL is for a height of 58-61” and waist of 26-27”.
Toddlers' sizes come in T1 though T4 and have a diaper allowance. All sizes are in one envelope. T1 is for a height of 31” and waist of 20”, while T4 is for a height of 40” and a waist of 21 ½”.
Baby patterns are generally sized XS through XL, although there are exceptions. Select baby patterns based on height and weight. Sizes are intended for newborns through 12-18 months and weights 8lb through 26lb.
